Certificate of Membership Information

1. What is the NPS-AID Certificate of Membership?

The NPS-AID Certificate of Membership is a document that is available for secure download to all persons with a disability that participate in the “National Public Safety Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities” program. Learn more about the NPS-AID program here.

2. What is the purpose of this document?

The purpose of the NPS-AID “Certificate of Membership” is to advise first responders that the person depicted on the certificate has a disability and has partnered with the NPS-AID program, and its supporting public safety agencies, to assist first responders with better understanding the members disability and guide officials on how they can, when safe and appropriate, obtain further information about the member.

3. Who can download this document?

Any person that has a disability, or the care taker or loved one of a person with a disability, can download a certified copy of their membership in the NPS-AID program once they have completed the secure and verified application process within the NPS-AID program.

4. How do I get more information about this person?

If your agency or department does not currently participate in the NPS-AID program, and need additional information about the member documented on the certificate, you have a couple of options:

If the person joined the NPS-AID program in conjunction with a NPS-AID supporting public safety agency, the agency and its contact information will be displayed on the certificate. By contacting this agency, they should be able to access the NPS-AID database which will contain numerous details about the member and their disability.
If the person joined the NPS-AID program and no agency is listed, the member’s emergency contact information will be displayed on the certificate. The emergency contact should be able to assist with providing additional information.
Any supporting NPS-AID public safety agency can access the NPS-AID database nationwide.

5. What is the certificate supposed to look like?

The official NPS-AID certificate should say “Certificate of Membership” at the top and contain the primary NPS-AID logo. The document should contain the members name, DOB, emergency contact number and the name and number of a member agency if available. In addition, the members official NPS-AID membership number will be displayed just above the bottom of the official certificate border.

6. What will not be displayed on the certificate?

The NPS-AID certificate will not contain sensitive information such as the members disability, names of other family members, etc…
